Nelson at its Best is recruiting a Poverty Reduction Coordinator to lead the implementation and evolution of its poverty reduction initiatives, including the Together Nelson Action Strategy for Nelson & Area. This role is essential in driving meaningful, collaborative efforts to reduce poverty in Nelson and surrounding areas while building a sustainable framework for long-term social and economic development. The coordinator will work with a diverse network of stakeholders to strengthen partnerships, support innovative solutions, and meet the objectives of the Vancouver Foundation/Osprey Foundation Community Prosperity Grant.

Primary Responsibilities:
1.     Research and Data Management:
·       Collect, analyze, and interpret data to track the scope of poverty and inform strategic actions.
·       Integrate insights from the Tamarack Institute’s Western Canada Leads cohort to guide population-level change.

2.     Strategic Coordination:
·       Conduct a comprehensive asset scan to identify gaps and opportunities for action.
·       Oversee and update the Together Nelson 4-Year Action Strategy to reflect community needs and priorities.

3.     Public Engagement and Community Collaboration:
·       Engage with local governments, non-profits, and individuals with lived experience to create a shared vision for poverty reduction.
·       Develop and implement a Community Economic and Social Development (CESD) Framework.
·       Facilitate multi-stakeholder meetings and consultations to foster collaboration.
·       Build a Community Partner Network to expand the impact of poverty reduction efforts.
·       Organize public engagement events to build awareness and inspire community participation.

4.     Communications:
·       Design and execute a communications strategy that highlights the stories behind local poverty challenges.
·       Promote the project’s progress and successes through storytelling and media outreach.

5.     Resource Development and Sustainability:
·       Identify and secure funding opportunities to ensure long-term operational capacity.
·       Collaborate with stakeholders to implement innovative strategies and secure partnerships for future initiatives.

Qualifications and Skills:
·       Experience in social development, poverty reduction, or community planning.
·       Demonstrated ability to manage multi-stakeholder projects and foster collaboration.
·       Strong skills in research, data analysis, and evidence-based decision-making.
·       Proficient in a variety of communication approaches, with a focus on storytelling and community engagement.
·       Familiarity with social determinants of health and strategies for systemic change.
·       Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

This contractor is required to have access to a home office setup, including a computer, phone, and internet. In-person engagement within Nelson will be required regularly.
